International Film Festival Febiofest Bratislava

International Film Festival Febiofest Bratislava is a 7- day event that combines industry and film programme dedicated to contemporary and archive film with emphasis on European productions. The festival takes place in Bratislava, capital of Slovakia, in centre of Europe.

IFF Febiofest Bratislava was founded in 1993. It is organized by Association of Slovak Film Clubs. The main coorganizer of the festival is the Slovak Film Institute. Festival was first dedicated to local films but soon became open also for European and World cinema – especially in the past 5 years. The main idea of the festival is to be a platform for presentation of arthouse cinema, and to promote Slovak cinema and current trends of arthouse cinema from all over the world.

The competition section of the programme is dedicated to short film production primarily from the Visegrad region or Austria (and Ukraine from 2020). Other core sections present selection of new Slovak films in national premieres, arthouse films which showcase current development of author cinema (mainly in sections "Limitless and Club Film Today") or unique arthouse titles that are linked with the history of cinema (archive films).

Very important part of the programme is Industry Days which for four years to welcome our international friends on the home ground - dramaturges, sales agents, producers and representatives of various film institutions and film festivals. We present a clear overview of what is going on in Slovakia and bring up the topics that support the openness of Slovak cinema and its willingness to join the global filmmaking family.

The main part of the festival takes place in Bratislava and a selection of films is subsequently screened in approx. 10 cities across Slovakia creating an alternative distribution channel. We take into account the situation of the industry in our country and use the festival as a tool to achieve growth of the market share of arthouse European films in Slovak cinemas.
