„It takes an equal amount of time to reach God as it does to reach the Devil.“ Gypsy is a story of fourteen-year-old Adam, who attempts to step outside the borders of the Roma village and make his siblingsʼ life better after the death of their father. He comes into conflict with racial, social and cultural prejudice, as well as harsh unwritten rules of his own community. The circumstances are turning against him... This film by the director Martin Šulík premiered at 46th Karlovy Vary IFF, winning the Special Jury Prize, while the lead actor Ján Mižigár received Special Jury Mention for his depiction of the title character. The film also received two non-statutory awards – the Europa Cinemas Label Award and the Don Quijote Prize by the International Federation of Film Societies. In the following year, Gypsy secured six Sun in a Net (Slnko v sieti) national film awards.
