Paterson is a bus driver in the eponymous city of Paterson. Every day seems to be just like the last one: he drives his daily route, observes the city as it drifts across his windshield and overhears fragments of conversation swirling around him. He writes poetry into a notebook; he walks his dog; he stops in a bar and drinks exactly one beer and he comes home to his wife, Laura. Her life is in stark contrast to his – it’s ever changing, each day bringing her new dreams and new ideas. Paterson and Laura love each other and support each other; he nurtures her latest ambitions; she admires his gift for poetry. The film tells a story of the triumphs and defeats of daily life, along with the poetry evident in its smallest details.
