The magnum opus of one of the most significant animators in the world, Hayao Miyazaki, leads the audience into a fascinating world of unbridled fantasy. Spirited Away is an adventure film that doesn’t revolve around battles, its main character has no special powers and there is no fight between good and evil. This tale of a ten-year-old girl who wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters has no need for the clichés and shallow attractions of seasonal animated blockbusters. On the contrary, viewers of all ages are engulfed in the unique vision of the author that infuses every single shot with magic, playfulness, originality, but also a dose of melancholy and emotiveness. – In 2003, the film won an Oscar in the category of full-length animated films.
