Hot news with Nicolas Cage, award-winning world filmmakers and back to old venue. The organizers of the IFF FEBIOFEST Bratislava reveal first news and films

The 31st IFF FEBIOFEST Bratislava will take place from March 13 to 19, 2024 in the renovated venue of the Lumière Cinema in Bratislava. The Association of Slovak Film Clubs - ASFK and the main co-organizer of the festival, the Slovak Film Institute, are launching the sale of Christmas cinepasses today.

The IFF FEBIOFEST Bratislava will once again bring two competitions – a competition of short and feature films from the V4 countries, Austria and Ukraine. "The program will also include "festival favourite" - a film with Nicolas Cage. This time it will be he one from the arthouse line of his rich filmography. The film Dream Scenario was produced by the well-known studio A24 and directed by the young talent Kristoffer Borgli, who became famous in our country with the film "Sick of Myself", explains festival director Ondrej Starinský.

In the film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, Nicolas Cage portrays the inconspicuous college professor Paul, who overnight begins to appear in the dreams of millions of people around the world, becoming a global celebrity. At the same time, all his wishes begin to come true, but he also learns how high the price of fame is. In the film, Nicolas Cage gives the performance of his life in a thoroughly entertaining social satire. "We can't wait for the Lumière Cinema to reopen so that we can show the audience the latest films from around the world, as well as recently digitized classics and unique film curiosities," adds Starinský.

The IFF FEBIOFEST Bratislava continues its cooperation with the international educational platform. The Visegrad Film Forum will once again offer 4 days of master classes with world-famous filmmakers, unique screenings with guests, or screenings of student films and discussions.

The atypical concept of the event enables informal meetings of the public with students from recognized film schools, networking filmmakers and respected experts. Among the first confirmed guests is Rúnar Rúnarsson, an award-winning Icelandic director and screenwriter, a festival darling, who has, among other things, nominations for the Oscar and the European Film Awards. In 2019, his film Echo won two awards in Locarno, and his last film Solitude, in which he participated as a screenwriter (directed by Ninna Pálmadóttir), was created as an Icelandic-Slovak-French co-production and premiered at the prestigious festival in Toronto. The film Solitude will also be shown in a pre-premiere as part of the IFF FEBIOFEST Bratislava and will then be brought to cinemas by the Association of Slovak Film Clubs. Other confirmed guests include filmmakers of cult films - editor Tariq Anwar (American Beauty, The King's Speech) and cinematographer Peter Suschitzky - a long-time collaborator of David Cronenberg, but also the DOP of films such as Star Wars, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Mars Attacks! or Rocky Horror Picture Show.

After the opening of the film festival in Bratislava, a selection of films will be irregularly shown in other cinemas in Slovakia under the brand "FEBIOFEST presents" until the end of the summer. The Christmas advance sale of cinepasses (passes for the entire 31st International Film Festival FEBIOFEST Bratislava) will last until January 15 at
